What it covers
The inspection checks the vehicle's safety equipment and mechanical condition: brakes, lights, tires, glass, mirrors, seat belts, exhaust and emissions, among others.
Where it is done
It is done at an authorised inspection centre. The DTOP sets how often it must be done and which centres are approved, so confirm both there before you go.
What to bring
- A current driver's licence.
- The car's registration, with the marbete up to date.
- Proof of current insurance.
When you buy a used car
- Ask to see the last inspection receipt.
- If it has lapsed, the first trip to the centre is yours, and you pay for it.
- The inspection does not say everything: a car can pass it and still have mechanical problems the check does not catch.
