What it is
The marbete is the registration sticker that is renewed every year and stays with the vehicle. It is an annual payment: it is not paid once when you buy the car, it is paid every year while the car is on the road.
Where it is handled
It is paid to the Department of Hacienda, at the collection offices and online. The amount depends on the vehicle's value and the current table, so confirm it with Hacienda: we do not give you a guessed number here.
When you buy a used car
- Ask whether the marbete is current and ask to see it on the car.
- A lapsed marbete is a cost that lands on you on day one.
- If the car has been sitting for a while, count the inspection and the insurance too.
- The marbete goes with the car, not with the owner: do not confuse it with something tied to your licence.
